Sunstar Question

Starting working on the sunstar today. For some reason it would not turn over. I checked a few things, and it seems the selenoid is bad. I was reading up on this, and it appears that the OEM selenoid was grounded through several different routes. I was going to order one that was like the one I took off. It looks like this:

This one is grounded through the base. It ran for the PO and I had the tractor running once, but it didn't always turn over....acted like there was loose wires. Now it just won't turn over. I did check the starter and it is good to go. Anyone have any input on which selenoid I should go with? Will the selenoid not work properly if it is not grounded through the base correctly?

Well with the old one try this first you are using the one small post now put a jumper wire one the one post not being used now and hook other end of this wire to one of the mounting bolts this worked for me

Do you have a low signal voltage at all on the blue wire, I believe, at the starter solenoid terminal? I had a similar problem with my Sunstar with a CH20 where there was a big voltage drop on that wire and not enought to trigger the starter solenoid. I ended up using a Bosch relay that would signal on a low volt amp draw and used the dry contact portion to connect to bigger wires that fire the starter solenoid. Since then never missed a lick.

all four posts were being used when I took it off?????? with the harness and everything, it is very difficult to see where everything is going. It sounds like you guys each only have one blue wire going to the selenoid. I may try to re-ground the selenoid first and see what kind I get.

Contact Al he has a relay/harness in kit form that may solve your problem.

Did some more diagnostics...I am getting a negative read to the starter, so I am going with a new selenoid. Got it on order. So I figured since I have it torn apart this far, I may as well do a little sanding and painting. Of course there is so much rust, a "little" sanding is an understatement.
