tripleguy Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Are there alternative sources for seats other than dealers? I have a Sovereign that I'd like to eventually replace the seat on. Dealer price is $126 or so. For that amount, I think I can live with some black duct tape!
RayS Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 The one in the link below actually uses the same seat pan with a different cover. It is made by Michigan Seat Co. like the original. I am sure you would need to remove cover and drill and weld in new nuts so that it would fit. I believe Bill Engle (Phandad) used blind nuts. http://cgi.ebay.com/Michigan-Seat-Lawn-Tractor-Seat-Model-V-250-NEW-/390314423300?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ae08d7404 There is always an alternative. http://home.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=lawn+tractor+seat&_sacat=159912&_odkw=simplicity+seat&_osacat=159912&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1311
jmhusby Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Our Fleet Farm sells seats by Michigan and they are good seats. Northern Tool & Equipment also has seats cheaper than $126. Bought one from them once also.
larry8200 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Tractor supply co. has some decent seats in the $50-$70 range. You'd have to drill new holes.
ezliving4ume Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Don't forget about tsc also. Mine bolted right on, they typ. Have mult holes on the bottom.
tripleguy Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 But are you guys going to "ding" me for not having an original Simplicity seat?? sm06
rfsmith1952 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 At the risk of again creating havoc in the ranks of the purists, I put a boat seat from Sportsmans Guide on my T-10. Had to position it carefully, made a template and drilled four new holes in the seat pan. Total cost: $26.00, kind to the hiney: Priceless. I have the original seat hermetically sealed sm06 in the event I need to put it back on.
TommyK Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Farm and Fleet. But to get a really nice one, especially with high back, $126.00 isn't too bad a price. You could also check the Sporting Goods Aisle for bass boat seats. Saw a good old boy retrofit a seat from a '77 Monte Carlo onto a CubCadet once. :D. Had to reinstall it on the Monte' when he took his girl out on a date though.
Boney Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I got this one at Tractor Supply, so far it works ok. [url]http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=116794/url]
