i havce a yardman mower nothing great but cuts the grass i have used it all last year and only one time it had broke the keyway the holds the fly wheel and crank together. i have started using it this year and now i can't drive it for more then 5 mins and then it brake usually a backfire some time for the brake thank josh

make sure your flywheel is on tight. use an impact wrench to tighten it down if you have access to one.

You also need to deburr the shaft and flywheel. They need to be smooth and clean or they won't get tight. A bit of locktite on the bolt may help too, if it is loosening up. I would be a bit careful with the impact wrench, don't over torque and break the bolt. That would be ugly. }:)

The flywheel is kept in place by the friction of the tappers being push together by the nut or bolt! The key is Aluminum and only intended to hold the flywheel until the nut is tight. There is only one torque spec for the flywheel nut and anything other than that is either to loose (key shears) or to tight (damage to the nut, bolt, or crank!) You need to look up the torque spec for your model number engine and torque the nut/bolt with a torque wrench. Anything else is guessing and that generally doesn't work out well

Also, the shaft cannot have oil or grease on it. As stated above, torque it down to spec.

thanks alot everyone just one last ? where could i find the right torque spec
