bgosh Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 What is the latest and greatest way to get rust out of a gas tank? Thanks Stan
steve-wis Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Stan, Most guys put a length of chain or a few handfuls of bolts and nuts in the tank and then roll it or shake it good. Best is to bungy cord it onto the rear wheel of your tractor and drive around with the tank spinning. Afterwards, you can get them coated on the inside or just wash it out good and use it. I don't know who in Oshkosh would do the coating, but I would guess someone does it. Steve
Killer_A-C Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I like using small gravel.Just blow it out and wash it out before using..
rm Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 motorcycle shops sell the coating (do it your self kit) its easy to do
hamman Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I use "KREEM" kit on my Honda atv and it worked great. Had to clean it like they said with chain, nuts, bolts etc.. It is a two day job but works great.
snag Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I did the nuts and washer thing and then use red kote to line it. this was on my tractor abougt 4-5 years ago, still holding up
bowhunt4life Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I used nuts and bolts and Muratic Acid, rinsed and then had a buddy coat it with a gas tank liner he got from CarQuest.
dhardin Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 If your seeing a lot of rust in your filter your well on the way to a leaky tank. Small bolt an nuts can be to aggressive. I have used clean dry sand and a automatic paint shaker. Then a product like por14.
TommyK Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 I like the bungying it to the rear wheel of your lawn tractor. Wht will the neighbors think? tee, hee. :D
