Thinking only of little you." Thought a Roy Acuff song was appropriate. My 5212 and a half is sitting in my back yard minus one wheel. I took her out last Tuesday to mow. She began to lump along when I noticed the rear tire was flat. The tire and wheel assembly came off easy enough. The innertube stem had sheared itself. A bit of prying got one bead free and outside the rim before I could remove the tube assess the root cause of the problem. Not really having the correct tools to put her back together, I decided to take the wheel assembly to the local Simplicity dealership, Wednesday a.m. By Friday the tube had not come in yet. The parts guy suggested, if I needed my mower badly, to pick up a tube elsewhere and they'd install it on Saturday. Factoring in the extra trip to town, using $4 gas, I decided to wait for the parts distribution system to eject the correct tube. I finished the lawn, actually re-did what was mowed 4 days ago as well, yesterday with my 22" pusher.XX( Should the parts distribution machinery fail to come up with a tube in the next few days, I'm of a mind to pick one up at Farm and Fleet before next weekend. Are F&F tubes any good?

Up here we have Fleet Farm, and I use their tubes all the time. Waiting for days for a tube seems a bit riduculous, what is their problem? I can't imagine it takes that long to get a tube. Steve

Who knows? These guys have been good to me over the years, so I suspect either the tube supplier or shipping have had a hick-up.

"You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine." The tube came in, it was mounted yesterday and it came out round as expected. As per the parts manual and suggestion from another poster here, I slathered the drive shaft with Never Seez, then re-installed the re-tubed wheel. I had so much fun doing that I removed the other driver and lubed that shaft as well. Curious, on one side there was a pair of washers on the inboard side of the wheel and one washer on the outboard side next to the snap ring. The other side was just the opposite. The parts manual also shows this asymmetrical arrangement. Question: there are two types of washers, a thick and a thin. Which is the 'plain', which is the 'thrust' washer? I suspect, at a minimum, the thrust washer needs to be against the drive housing. Took the "Deuce" on her first complete shake down cruise after the aborted attempt last week. She acted like she didn't want to start, but finally fired up. I am amazed at how quiet she runs. Note to posterity: I took a break for supper. I shut her down by throttling all the way down, idled for a half minute then turned her off. about 8 seconds later, "POW", she backfired. After supper I finished up, backed her in the shed, throttled UP to full for a few seconds, turned the key off... no "POW." Also, I found there is enough play in the center detent for the direction control lever, to allow a super slow creeper speed for delicate task of backing The Deuce into my over stuffed yard barn.

On a lighter note: When I got to the SimpleCity dealership to pick up my re-shod tire, I was second in line. The customer at the counter was talking about a "malfunctioning governor." For a second I thought I'd walked into a political discussion. :D

I put the Larin brand tubes in my stuff. I think that's the brand sold by the farm stores, F&F, Mill's FF and TSC. As long as the tube is properly installed, ie. LOTS of baby powder, I see no issues witrh the brand. There's some things my local dealer doesn't need to order, inner tubes are one of them.
