AC710 Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 I have a chance to pick up an Allis B-10. From the pix it is an early model - Label on the hood with no "Bee", and a lower seat back. Can anyone tell me if there are significant differences besides 9 vs. 10 HP engines? Especially improvements in the later models that may mean early parts are harder to get or weak points that were improved. Thanks.:D Also, $600 with mower and snow plow blade - "runs good". Does that sound reasonable?
bowhunt4life Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 I have post 1964 B-10's and a friend has an early B-10. Visibly I see no major differences and wouldn't stop me from buying early or late. As for 9hp versus 10hp I have a 64 landlord 9hp and the B-10's with 10hp and I don't notice a difference whether I am tilling, mowing or pushing sand or gravel. As for price everywhere will be different. Around here prices are hit and miss. I picked up a my B's for the following prices; 1965 Big Ten with Snow Blower $350 1966 B-10 with mower Deck, Tiller, Rear Stinger Weight, Hi Lo Unit, Snow Blade $595 1967 B-10 with super nice 36" snow thrower, Hi Lo Unit $395 All units are in working condition. So with that said if the price is reasonable to you than go for it.
Chris727 Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 The 9hp engine is a great engine, but the 10 is a little bit better. The 9 (model 23D) has plain aluminum crank bearings (this has been a problem area on many), the 10 has ball bearings. The 9hp also has a 3 leg armature that is NLA, other than that there is little difference and I don't think there is much power difference either, if its running good now I wouldn't be afraid of it.
rm Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 $600 sounds more than fair to me if there are no major issues there a great lil tractor
