78kitty Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I may finally get to use the 36" mounted tiller, model # 1690039, I got with my 3415H. I got the rear lift installed on my 7117H and mounted the tiller & pulley assembly (it's mounted on this tractor b/c the 3415H is STILL apart C). Everything seems to be there except the spring that holds tension on the idler pulley / applies tension to the belt. Can I use a spring from the hardware store on it, or to I need to get it from Simplicity? If I can use a generic spring does anyone know what size I should get? FYI- It's #13 in the screenshot from the parts manual below Ref No.- 13 Part No.- 174896 Qty.- 1 Description- SPRING
427435 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 There's nothing special about the OEM spring. Just remember that the idler goes under the bottom (or slack side) of the belt. I don't have the length handy, but pull up the idler under the belt and measure the distance between the spring attaching points. Then get a fairly stiff spring that is shorter. I ended up adding a second spring to the OEM spring to keep the belt from slipping.
