In what position?

My Landlord rear end is loose. I can rock the rear end up and down so I know it is loose. My question. Is the rear end supposed to be pulled up to tighten, or, is the tractor supposed to be raised, lowering the back of the tractor, then tightened? I noticed it when I was connecting a trailer to move the branches of the last set of trees that uprooted in the last storms we had. This spring has taken me from a shady yard to open sun

The only thing I can think of that would be loose to cause that are the bevel gear box bolts. I would get it on level ground, tighten the bottom bolts from the front frame to bgb first then tighten the bolts to the rear plates.

Yes. The bevel box bolts are under a good bit of stress from being the only front/rear connection. I have to retorque mine on a regular basis, particularly during winter when plowing. One other symptom that it is doing that is the shifter will move inside the H-pattern when the clutch is released.

I have seen the side plates come loose also.

Yes, more precisely the side plate to bevel box bolts, not the ones from the front half to the bevel.
