Today's Tractor find

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine called today and gave a phone number of a guy selling a Simplicity tractor. I called and looked at the tractor....me & newphew hauled it home. A 1974 Simplicity Baron tractor 3414H, needs bevel box fixed ,engine was rebuilt and is running. Missing a seat. Owner was thinking about turning the engine around and connecting to trans.:O:O This the first Baron I have seen with hydro drive....is this a more rare model

The tractor looks to be in pretty good shape. Congrats on the find. I don't know if it's that's rare, because there are many 3416's around which are, to me, basically the same tractor. Has a 32 cube Briggs that's down rated to 14 HP somehow. Note your tractor has the "newer" Vickers where the brake works when the "free wheel" lever is in "neutral" (which is the straight up position). There are a bunch more of the old style Vickers around, so you might say your Vickers is rare.

I have never seen a Baron H. Wonder if those hood decals are aftermarket ?
The decals are the orignal to the tractor. The bevel box needs repair......bearing is worn on the short shaft. Karl

If the fourth bulb is complete and connector base is secure to bulb portion check the 2 contacts and if the surface is somewhat flat this is due to wear and vibration over the years , I have 4 bulbs that were so flat good electrical contact was impossible and would burn off and on. I took a small solder gun and carefully heat the base and built up the contact with more solder. If you can do this the bulb will have tighter fit in the spring loaded socket and work.

I remember having just one 3414H over the years.I only remember because I recently scrapped the seat deck from it. Yours looks to be in better than average cosmetic shape.

Over a year ago, you answered a question I had about the tool bar for my FDT. In your reply dated Dec 31, 2019  you said the spacer, part #16, goes in the bar to allow for up and down depth adjustment. does this mean the bolt has to be tightened at whatever depth desired or does the bolt slide up and down, allowing the lower hitch to free float?
If it is tightened so the lower hitch and the bar are rigid, then is the depth to be controlled by the shoes? Or by the lift handle?
Is there any kind of user directions for the tool bar? The Outdoor Power Manual basically shows how to assemble the bar but not how to use it
