Got my ugly new 7116 into the garage on Sunday and drug in the 912 frame so I'd be all ready to go this week. Goal is to swap the 7116 rear end and hydro lift parts onto the much cleaner 912 frame and tower, and then use the best pieces from both during reassembly. This poor girl has lived a hard life. [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/PKvmP.jpg[/IMG] Hooked up my chain hoist and popped the motor out. In doing so, I noticed one of the four ears on the oil pan has been broken off; guess I'll just make do with the three bolts until I find a new Briggs pan down the road. Anyways, hooked up to the frame and vertical she went. BTW, this chain hoist has got to be one of the best free gifts I ever received! [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/Gzez8.jpg[/IMG] After getting the parts I needed out, I went ahead and separated, again using the hoist to carefully lift the frame out of the way. In keeping with the engine theme, there were only three of four bolts going into the BGB... [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/p0hw9.jpg[/IMG] They look so meek when just a pile of parts :p [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/B0aeE.jpg[/IMG] There's a welded in bung for the hydro lift lever to go through on the 7116 frame that's missing on my 912 frame, so I'll be finding some suitable 5/8ths ID tube at work tomorrow to weld in to a hole I'll have to cut. I tried cutting out the bung in the junk frame, but pounding it out just created a mess that I don't feel like cobbling back together. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll get to separate this guy and start in on my frankentractor. Then it's just waiting for my starter repair parts from Jack's! [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/U252k.jpg[/IMG]

Luckily my diesel 912 is all chained up and wearing a plow, just waiting for some of that glorious white stuff!! :D:D

Would have hated to be the guy on that tractor rollover. Wow that thing was bent up.I will be wathing your progress on frankintrac. 1"-3" snow should i just let the first one melt off...not ready.i'll have wife fitted with shovel before nightfall.:D.

Is that what happened to that poor tractor? A rollover? I came close to rolling my Sovereign 18 before I realized how much higher the center of gravity is from the old ones. Scary.

The guy didn't say (it was his dad's tractor or something), but I have to imagine that was the case based on the damage. Hood shifted sideways, steering column bent, new steering wheel, messed up seat pan, broken oil pan foot... My best guess is it went over hard to the "driver side" and then twisted to and stood on end to move the pan forward as far as it was. Must've been a wild ride or spectacle to watch!

[Apparently I can post one pic at a time today...] Got back out to the garage last night and started in again. First up, I needed to create the bung for the hydro lift lever that was not present on my 912 frame. I made a simple template off the 7116 frame, transfered the holes...

I had intended on using the rock shaft from the 7116 since it had the tabs already setup for the ram piston width, but I ran into difficulty getting the set screws out on the one side. Namely, turns out I didn't have the right sized allen (which I found odd). So I went to plan B and just ground flats onto the piston to work with the non hydro rock shaft still in the 912.

At this point, and assuming I hooked up all the hydro lines into the right ports on the valve, I just need to decide what wiring I want to run and then drop the motor back in.

Figure I'll do a full hydro fluid/filter and motor oil change while I'm at it. I'm thinking the Ags (in the background of some of the pics) will make their way onto this little guy; I'm highly tempted to go nuts with the drill and stud them, but we'll see. Good bye Simplicity, hello Allis!

When I installed a hydrolift on my 716H, for the lift handle mount I used a shuttle shift tube from a 410, since they bolted onto that tractor. Another way to make studded tires is to use sheetmetal screws that have a hex head and also a screwdriver slot. Most of them have a thin ring around the top of the head that makes it bite great into ice, and they can be easily replaced when the heads get worn. No drilling necessary. Just make sure the screw in not long enough to penetrate the carcass of the tire and cause a flat. That is what they use on the motorcycles that race on ice.

Once the baby went down, I was able to get out in the garage and start cleaning and testing my electrical components. Got my switch contacts (mostly) shiny again and liberally sprayed the old stand-by, WD-40, in the key hole until all was smooth. If I had thought ahead, I would've printed off the Briggs 16 horse wiring diagram at work since our home printer died, but of course I didn't. Thus, my glorious hand written copy! :Q [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/hNsx5.jpg[/IMG] Now, help me out here with your thoughts: There is one point of confusion I haven't quite wrapped my mind around yet... The way the wiring was set up in the 7116 when I drove it in the garage was (unless I pulled something apart accidentally, but I'm fairly confident I didn't), the "white" wire coming from the "G" terminal of the switch in the diagram that should've gone to the points was nonexistent. Instead, a wire coming off the "L" terminal (sharing with the lights) went all the way out to the module on the motor. I know nothing about if the electrical system charged properly before, and/or any other gremlins for that matter; all I know is the motor ran with the key on and shut off with the key off. Still, it's seems in contrast to the diagram. The "M" wire did go to what I'm assuming is a small ground on the carb side of the motor, the "B" did go to the ammeter, and the "S" did go to the starter all in accordance with the diagram. So it's really only the discrepancy surrounding the "L" and "G" terminals... I do despise bad grounds, so I always make it a point to give myself a good ground post in any wiring project. I'll run a wire up from the motor to the post as well. [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/lcyC1.jpg[/IMG] And of course, the new plug so to speak. The old one was beyond corroded. Everything gets crimped, soldered, and shrink wrapped. Wish I had more color variety in wires, but the wire/shrink wrap color variations will have to do for now; just gotta make sure I right them down for future reference ease... Once I finalize everything, I'll fill it with grease and shrink it to keep out as much water as I can. Found out the hole in the frame for oil drain was enlarged on the later models; had to do some quick grinding to fit the motor last night. Also found the throttle/choke cables to be different lengths so I'll have to swap those over. The motor runs though, so I know the wiring ended up correct (thanks again Ray). Had one puddle show up on the floor when I fired it up; turns out I got all the hydro lines tightened except for two fittings mid tractor. B):p Hopefully can get all the final kinks worked out tonight or this weekend! I do still need to figure out my hood situation. I have the bent sideways simplicity hood and my old hacked up 912 hood; may try to do some patch panels, or maybe I'll get lucky and find one on CL. Then it'll be on to cleaning up the blower!

Well, I got my garage spot back; it's up and running! Still have to do some adjusting to the choke; I guesstimated when hooking it back up. Had one issue with it dying which turned out to be the fuel line at the tank which had lost it's integrity and was kinking off flow. Then just any needed adjustments to the front PTO, clean up the blower, hook it up, and test 'er out! :D
