Wheel weights

Hi guys, I recently bought a set of cast iron wheel weights,they are 60lbs a piece. Does anyone know the torque specs on the bolts that hold the weights to the rim? This is the first time Ive ever used wheel weights so i'm not sure how tight to torque them? Thanks

Depends on the size of the bolt.

thank u Ray. I thought that about size of bolt, but didn't know if this would be totally different since the bolts would be torquing against the inside of the rim. I wasn't sure if i would break loose the inside of the rim by tightening the bolts to tight

I just snug my nut/bolt by hand and then give a good full swing on the ratchet. Done. I've never had one come loose...if you're concerned, you could use a lock washer or a lock nut. I've never wanted to crank on one, simply to avoid chewing up the finish on teh rim.

I agree with Josh. I have just used a impact or ratchet and never was concerned with an actual torque.

I just use the standard off Lowes shelf carrige bolts and lock washers. Tighten to compress lockwasher fully, then till it feels right. Or to steal a line from Marks AC "I use the German torque spec of gutentight. (good 'n' tight!)"

Thanks guys i'm not concerned at all didn't en tended on making an issue .Like i was saying its my first time using the weights so i didn't know how much to tighten to hold those heavy things in place since they are 60lbs a piece, i do have carriage bolts lock washers an nuts.

I think the weight of the weights will actually be carried mostly by the rim itself...the bolts are just there to hold them in position. 60#'ers are pretty big, so they most likely stick out a ways. Your bolts would then be supporting actual weight, whereas the cast stackable weights that used to come with the old machines sat inside the rim, and I've actually had a tough time getting some of them off, when no bolts are holding them at all. I could see where you would wonder...I think a snug, quality carraige bolt will do the trick ;)

made this cargo carrier with my welder and scrap stuff I had. Also made the 2" receiver for it. Plan on putting a couple sand bags on it for extra weight. It actually took me longer to get this pic on here than it did to make the carrier!!!
