Hey guys, name is Will from NY, I am generally a Wheel Horse guy on Redsquare etc. Tonight I picked up a Deutz that seemed like a fair deal, a 1817H, (same as a 17gth). I know it is not the top of the line, but I love how Simplicitys mow and stripe, and this seemed like it would be a good worker, plus good power out of the magnum 17. It needs the basics (filters etc), a drive belt, snow blower belt, chains, and the steering is skipping the gears (any ideas?). It runs well, hydro seemed ok forward and reverse. I paid $400 for the tractor, 48" deck, weights and 42" snow thrower. Looks like a keeper. Being strictly a foot draggier I'm not familiar with your steering problem, but I know someone will jump in to help. Just wanted to welcome you to the club. Willy

On the steering, I would check the steering gears and make sure they are clean and that no leaves, gunk, etc. is forcing them apart (so they don't mesh fully). Do you know for sure that it's in the steering gear, or is it possibly the steering wheel is turning on the steering shaft perhaps? Welcome to the club too. Lots of great folks here!

the steering wheel has a bolt through it, so it is not just spinning on the shaft, the wheel is off, there is tons of debris down there, I need to clean with the shopvac, it looks like the upper (mid way) bushing is missing. You acutally hear it click, jump and then you can turn the shaft all you want, no resistance/no wheels moving.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
