Break in procedure

None is required that I know. Here is current operators manual http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/msowHM-K_ny7tH217FzoPu.pdf and an older one http://www.simpletractors.com/operation/b_%26_s_300401.htm . Also I don't recall any mention in the repair manual: " Before a thread is started on Briggs' engine repair, you might go here to see if your question can be answered. Just click on the book cover and you will be given a menu of items to look up." http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/portal_External.asp?LinkID=215&LinkName=Online%20Briggs%20&%20Stratton%20Service%20and%20Repair%20Inst.&CatID=20&CatTitle=Briggs&URL=http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=84803

There may not be a specific procedure, but I would recommend changing the oil after 5-10 hours of run time. Cheap, and it never hurts to remove the oil that has just completely cleaned the inside of the engine, and now holds the micro-fine by-products of break in.

I like to retorque the head bolts after a couple hours use too. I really don't know if it is needed, but it was part of the procedure years ago when I rebuilt fork lift engines so I just do it. :D

Yep, new rings, piston and rod. Didn't see anything in any of the manuals so I'll just run as usual. It never gets worked to hard but it's a work horse if needed. Thanks guys!

One procedure we used in aircraft air-cooled engines was to use Non-detergent oil during the initial couple hour break in. I forget the exact property of doing so but it supposedly helped the process along. Don't want to leave it that way though...
