I have a 2007 Champion 50" with 20 hp vanguard twin. Bought it in 09 with 100 hours on it. Its got around 300 hours on it now. Works good, mows nice. Never had any real trouble with it.

It does get stuck if you get off in soft or muddy ground. That said, it does hold a moderate hillside fairly well if need be, but they really are not for mowing along slopes you would normally mow with a regular tractor. My only real gripe is PTO belts only last one season, cost around $70, and cannot be bought at the farm stores as they are way too long. These do have the commercial style independant pumps and motors, which should last for some time. However, the cost to replace one of them would be probably quite expensive, as in maybe more than the used value of the whole machine.I'd kinda like to know what the average life expectancy of these pumps & motors is if normal care and maintinance is observed. I paid around 2700 for mine off Ebay in 09. B&B Simplicity in Geneseo Il, sold one on Ebay with a 44 not too long ago and it only brought around 1400.

It doesn't look like it was abused or used commercially. Might be a good unit. Sam, does yours have fans on top of the pumps?

No fans on top. Dont know about on the pulley side underneath. The new Champions have the spring loaded independant suspension on the back wheels too now. These older ones only have it on the front. They also dont make light kits for the Champions either. I have never figured out how to easily take the deck off this either. So, I generally just raise the front of the mower up with the engine hoist, or drive the front up on my car ramps to service the blades and clean the deck out.

That's what I'm hearing for blade/deck service. The only zeroes I've seen that have an easier time of removing the deck are those front grasshoppers. I have a gentle slope to the front yard, so it shouldn't be a problem. Sam, that's interesting about the belt, as I was looking under it a tthat belt and notice a wierd guide for it. a piece of 1/4"x1" painted and riding up against the belt???? I thought, that's odd, and out of character. Maybe if I get it I'll tinker with that. I think the prices are slightly higher around here as they're kind of rare....As yo ucan see, there's plenty of green and yello win these parts... bleh!!! I made him an offer of $1800 for it. We'll see if he bites! It'll be replacing my 91 Broadmoor which is on it's 2nd 16hp vanguard engine (hate that engine). I think I'll sell this one and the 42" blade, and keep my '68 shed queen :).

Probably the tension release lever. It was rubbing the belt on mine too. Some time back I rebent it so it wouldnt rub. Didnt make any difference in belt life though. Still breaks yearly like clockworkXX(

  • 3 weeks later...
After playing for a few weeks on this thing, it's pretty cool! Very comfortable and easy to maneuver. I can't wait for grass to grow now!

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
