Briggs cam removal

Recommended Posts

DaveTenney
I am in the process of tearing down a briggs 302431 and I can't get the dang cam and crank out. I have a feeling that the cam plug needs to come out, but not sure how to go about this. I'm not quite ready to start beating on it with the persuader... Here's the diagram: http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=briggs_and_stratton&mn=302431-0155-99&dn=6192002AQ Part I'm asking about is #591 on the diagram. Thanks, dAve

Cam plug gets pulled out so the dowel that the cam rides on will slide out. This will drop the cam sideways sothe crank can come out. Then lift out cam. You'll likely destroy the plug removing it so a replacement will be needed.
