thoughts on old unused belts

anyone have any thoughts on old belts...??? it was generally my feeling that NOS belts are not very good. doesnt industry put expiration dates on their belts even if unused? old hard rubber/kevlar/whatever isnt like a new belt... I do know that certain factories will throw out old (not very) unused belts as they cause more trouble than they are worth... I certainly wouldnt spend 80% full price on an old NOS belt... junk in my opinion... your thoughts?

I have had really good luck buying NOS Simplicity belts on Ebay. Usually try to buy them for a 1/3 of new or less. They seem to hold up as good as brand new ones...
