Governor Problems

I am in the process of rebuilding a 10hp horizontal B&S #243431 0627-02 7605171. When I tore down the motor the governor was in the bottom of the oil pan in about a million pieces. I purchased a new governor (393720 gear-governor) and put it on the shaft in the engine. The shaft in the engine does not appear to be long enough to accept the governor and cup. The cup does not slide over the shaft at all. Can somone tell me: 1. Did the parts place give me the right governor assy for the motor? 2. Does the cup have to fit over the shaft? 3. Does someone have a motor tore down and can tell me what is the shaft length supposed to be? I have been through all of the resources I know of looking for diagrams and measurements to no avail. Any help you could provide me would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get the Landlord back on the lawn. Regards, GR_Made

As I read my Briggs and Stratton parts diagram for your engine I read the following " ref. no 219 Gear Assy Governor part no 393720 used after code no 78061901, Note: part no. 291192 Gear Assy. governor used before code no. 78062001. So in my opinion you were given the wrong part. Those 2 part numbers are the only 2 listed for that engine. I hope this helps, obviously once you have the correct part things will look better. Good luck Al
