Pricing a Model W

Recommended Posts

I want to sell an early '60s Model W walk behind with a 36" snow thrower and a 30" sickle bar. Well used but works well, needs tires. Used mainly to move snow. THe original Simplicity throwe wore out so my brother repuposed the AC parts to work. 8 hp engine turns but I haven't had it started in 3 years. Tired teh sickle once but I don't think I have the pulley ratios right. Please give me an idea of it's sell price. Contact me through this forum and I will send a photo to your email address. I do not have an attachment icon to allow me to add a photo to this post. Sorry

re Photos - if you post your pix to a photo site like photobucket, or other, you can (kinda) easily use the handy links they usually provide to post links here - in photobucket, if you mouse over, the 4 choices pop up, and you pick the right one - preview your post here, so you know you got it right - if it shows in preview, that's the WYSIWYG, 'what you see is what you get'. (patience, it's easier than it sounds) This rule was passed here lately to allow non club members to get the help they need. This site is devoted to preservation and restoration of old Simp/AC tractors, not to making profit. Having said that, actual membership is the best 10 bucks you ever spent - and I keep trying, but keep getting sidetracked, happened again yesterday - soon, really, o yeh! sm01

Re sell price on your tractor. Usual thing = it depends. You could be looking at low figures, as is!! If you fix most of the little bugs, you can show a running tractor with attachments WORKING. and that's where it's at for some buyers. Other buyers would rather buy the wreck (harsh language, yes) in non-running condition, cos they know HOW to make it work again, and they will gladly take it off your hands. Top dollar, you gotta have it running, at least, cos it takes away that harsh bargaining chip. Add in the working attachments = priceless almost. Sickle bar is a hot item!! by itself. Not working, maybe 50-200. Working maybe 150-600?? I am not an expert on Walking Tractors, but the numbers vary like that - fix it if you can. And post the pix here. There's also Classifieds here - also worth considering. The figures I mention are rough ballpark - someone with more experience can correct me; but I doubt I am too far "out to lunch" on this. I have seen ads for similar in the range I mentioned.

Looks like one serious snowblower compared to what bigbox sells these days. Lots of original looking orange and white paint - seems in good shape. Often, these tractors show up in varying shades of rusty brown. Using photobucket's "IMG code", left click copies the code, then paste the "IMG code" here. (For viewing I "zoomed" it in "IrfanView" which is my main freebee grafx program, on my pc). Here ya go.
