It could be as much as a loose ground. You have an AC DC retified charging system. For starts you shouldn't have to pull engine unless there are signs of mouse nests.

I think that has Rectifier and Regulator on inside of frame behind the engine. They are seperate components. There should be two wires from the stator that produce AC current . Pull the plug apart and start the engine . Run at half throttle or more and place your meter leads on each terminal. You should see around 24 to 36 volts AC , If not your problem is in the direction of the stator on the engine. If you have power then put the connector back together and and test for voltage from the third wire on the rectifier that runs to the regulator for DC voltage coming out when the engine is running . If good there go to the wire coming out of regulator and you should see 13v DC minimum when the engine is running. Set you meter for the proper type of volts and range. If the battery is really dead that system will not charge it up. 15 amp total output with the ignition and the mower clutch on you do not have much left to charge the battery.

On the CCKA the rectifier/regulator are behind the flywheel. Unplug the harness from the engine & with the key in on position you must have 12 volts battery coming to that plug. Believe that lead is also feeding the ign. coil. If you have 12 volts to that plug coming from the ign. switch your problem is behind the flywheel. StanD

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
