Shuttle brake band

Hi All, The 7014S Baron that I bought last fall is having a reverse issue. After adjusting everything to the correct settings reverse was still slipping after using for a while. Finally took the brake band off and it is pretty much shot. Is the replacement lining still available? Or do I need to track down an entire band assembly. Thanks in advance for any and all help, Tom.

Does the planetery hub inside the brake band have a lot of floppy movement with the brake band loose. This is the common wear problem of the shuttle's. If it's floppy this indicates that the inner bearings are bead and basicly the shuttle section is a boat anchor.

There does seem to be quite a bit of slop in the planetary section. I don' t know how much is acceptable. I just know the brake band is down to the rivets.

I have 4 shuttles and the planetary floats (flops) in them all. They were designed that way. The reverse brake band is available from Simplicity for about $60.00 pricey. If the planetary reverser is real noisy its on its way out. Its normal for it to make a low wine. All the bad shuttles I have had, the planetary gears failed from lack of maintenance and lubrication. If kept clean and greased, all they need is to have additional grease added periodically, if they are black and dirty they should be dismanteles and cleaned

Well thanks again. I don't really think it's noisy, but I will pay more attention. I am going to take it off and apart and clean it and relube. I truly appreciate all the help and tips available on this sight. Wish I had all day just to absorb it all.

I have been relining cone clutches with leather. You may try using leather and contact cement to reline the brake band. The leather grabs really well. In fact it doesn't like to slip at all when you engage it.

If I remember correctly there is a 3/4" locking half nut under the hub cap . You can tighten that slightly and get good results once you get a grip with the lining in the band. I have brass rivets . Do not over grease the planetary. It will push grease out on the inside and lube up your forward belt. I have a shuttle on a trans if you need parts .

Thanks 1litre: I will bear that in mind if this one turns out to have more problems than it seems to.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
