Pull-behind reel mower

Does anyone use a pull-behind reel mower? I love them for manicuring a lawn. In fact I just bought a new one for my (very small) front yard (manual push) and it works great. So I am wondering if anyone uses one of these pulled behind a tractor for larger lawns. I am currently using a 48" deck on the 716H for my back yard.

There is a reel mower in the classifieds that I was thinking about mounting in front of my old broad moor

I have a couple sets that I picked up last year, but have yet to put them to use. The 3-gang set was a lucky find at a local auction after a loooong search for originals. I need someone to fix a cracked cast wheel on one of them, but the limited pulling I did with them had clipping flying everywhere! ^ I also recently picked up the two-gang set (local) and the belly reel (from jfrank) for use on my Wonderboy 575 like this...but no pics yet

Back when I was in school, they mowed all the grass on the baseball fields, football field and the rest of the grounds (A LOT of area) with a pull behind reel mower about 10 feet wide!

I have olde push reel, probably circa '70, maybe older but it has 5-position quick-adjust height settings, little levers w notches, takes 10 seconds to alter height. I set it up right and it is effortless (almost) to push. Oldies are at garage sales, auctions, cheap 5-50 bucks. Tow behinds are about twice the size, heavier. I think they are so cool; and if you really love sharpening and setups, getting a third row would be the thing for large grasslands. Golf course I worked had an old Jacobson looked like a road grader, but had hydraulic raise/lower arms all over it with a herd of h.d. reel mowers. It striped the "rough" in 2 passes - really wide, like some 15(?) feet cut. Some manual reels cut short enough to make a nice croquet course; but generally not short enough to mimic a golf green (1/8"-1/4"), altho you could make modifications. Reel mowers get a bad rap cos they are often set too tight, too low, and first time through a thatch layer is no fun. 8) Reserve judgment for second mowing.:D

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
