My "new" Simplicity 725 ... I'm a lucky %#$&!

Recommended Posts

I found this at a local estate auction. It was covered with a layer of dirt throughout and had several attachments ... a rotary belly mower, tiller, belly grader blade and a sickle bar mower. All I did was power wash the whole thing. Put in new gas, new spark plug and it fired right up. I kinda feel like I won the lottery.

Welcome to the club Thane, Nice looking tractor, You might stand up those rear fenders they look SQWISHED. What brand are the rear Lugs? Someone spent some time on that one, nice score.

Thanks D10-Allis. I've done a few restorations, so I feel a little embarrassed as a first-time Simplicity owner, to end up with this pre-restored 725. The restoration seems to be about 8-10 years old... and then it just sat until now.

The sickle bar mower was a big puzzle box... after a lot of reading, trial and error, I got it all together. I had to finish the restoration where the previous owner left off. Here's the result...

I got the right size belt for the smaller PTO pulley, did some adjustments and now it runs like a watch.

Welcome to the club ! What a way to start, That is one clean machine. Will you keep it as is or will you repaint the odd colored parts ? It looks far and away better than any tractor I own. But you said your have done restorations before and I was curious. Either way, Gratz on a great find and once again welcome to the club !

Hah! :p ...I thought the same thing about the colors and the billiard balls and the blingy nut caps. I affectionately called it my "Filipino taxi cab". After a while, I realized he had a method to his madness... everything that is green is a finger eater. So it was his little safety system. I think it's growing on me. :p

Welcome aboard, I like the color scheme, looks like an old brochure where it shows all of the workings and such under the tractor. I think I saw one from the early 70's. As far as the sickle bar; make sure it is on the "slow" pulley (I think the small one on the pto). If it goes too fast, she may break something. I think you are supposed to run it at a lower rpm also. jh

I haven't put it to work yet... maybe next week. I'm working through some spark issues right now. When it warms up it loses spark. I'm assuming it's the coil. I replaced the points and condenser, which made it run much better, but still loses spark once the engine is hot. It's probably the original coil in there. For now, the paint scheme will do. Getting to original would be a lot of work... especially considering the orange is a Duplicolor Chevy DE1620.

WOW!! Incredible restoration. Were the other attachments comparable? Pics? Is the switch on the dash to replace the keyed ignition switch? I recently picked up an original 725 and am really diggin it.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
