Used Simplicity Legacy checklist ?

Found a older Simplicity Legacy with a good running 25hp Kohler and high hours. Deck is junk, so its tractor only for under a grand. My question is what sorts of things does one need to look for on a used Legacy when looking to buy? What commonly goes wrong with them? Where are the high wear spots to check? How do the trannies hold up over time?..and are they a tranny that is only used in this tractor/brand? Are there any parts/accesories that are No Longer Available? Are there any perks to a high hour 25HP Kohler? etc etc etc

I have a 1998 Legacy with the 25 horse Command that I bought used with 1200 hours. It now has 1380 plus and still runs well without using oil. I did have to replace the fuel pump (it's in the valve cover; the pump is not replaceable, so you need the whole cover). Steering wheel parts are worn out, but this is my "good" tractor! I was afraid of the hours, but it has been a real workhorse for me. I gave $2500 three years ago for it; no regrets. Dave

Sam, I have a 2001 Legacy (diesel) and I love it, the trans is the same one that the sunstar used, they hold up well, the shift mech. from low to high is always stiff but does work, the steering seems to wear fast but mine has a loader so it's expected, I've had few problems with it and highly recommend them, the seat is my biggest complaint it's comfy but it cracks in the vinyl, replacements are big $, I think a cover for it is next, there is one on Clist that's interesting as well. http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/grd/2974359355.html

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
