Troubled 10hp cast iron Briggs from Allis b110

OK, so basically I have a 243431. It goes on a b110. the engine I have isn't blown or even worn that bad. Something is up with the timing. checked everything 100 times and the magnet and the mag don't line up. the dots on the cam and crank do though....As the points just begin to open the magnet on the flywheel is already over an inch past the mag/coil and the armature is all the way over. Any suggestions? I have 2 mechanics who have been doing small engines for about 50 plus years combined blown away with this engine.

Clarify please. The dots on the crank and cam are the mechanical timing adjustments. The valves will open and close at the proper time to allow the suck, squeeze, bang, and blow to happen correctly. There is an arrow on the right side of the magnet cast in the aluminum when looking at the flywheel from the front. There is also an arrow on the cast aluminum armature bracket. These arrows must point at each other straight up and down.

Without the plug in spin the engine over and widen or narrow the point gap to see if you gat a spark. I have a 16 HP that runs great at a .012 gap. Like the old GM's playing with the point dwell.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
