Vacuum collector tube

I got my 7116 all up and going now but the vacuum collector is fighting me every step of the way. It functions perfectly but the tube that goes from the collector to the trailer keeps coming off at the collector. It is supposed to be held on to the neck of the blower with a hose clamp type thing, which I have, but it just isn't doing it. I'd like to bolt through it and into the neck of the collector, but since you can't access the inside with the tube on, just running bolts through is out. I don't want to do machine screws since I'm sure they will just shake out. Anybody have any fixes for this? My over-engineered fix (which is the only kind I know how to pull of) is drill 4 holes into the top of the blower neck, weld 1/4" nuts in there aligned with the holes, and then bolt through the tube into those nuts. I could even use the existing clamp band as reinforcement. Any better ideas? http://www.simplicityva.com/Image065.jpg it is this exact setup if that helps.

Maybe 2 hose clamps. Also make sure that the clamp is tightening, I've seen those clamps strip out certain areas.

I don't know that there is room around the neck for 2 hose clamps, but I'll give it a shot. It is tightening down, but it just doesn't seem like any amount of clamping is going to do it.

I didn't think of that...I'll keep an eye on that. I have some corrugated drain pipe around that I think is the right size, so I might be able to make an extension if that doesn't work. Does anybody know how long that piece is supposed to be?

i had to use a piece of stove pipe to adapt from the vacuum to the hose. think i pop-riveted the pipe to the vac and put tek screws into the hose to hold it all together.

I just moved it fully to each side by hand and the tubing just flexes, so I don't think it has to do with the movement. The 2 bolts holding the neck that goes into the tube were set with the head inside the tube and the parts manual shows them with the head out. Switching them seemed to help the fit and I was able to get the clamp on good and tight. We'll find out if it holds tomorrow.

If that doesn't work, try more duct tape. :D It is a duct, right? What would Red Green say? Or, what would Perry say? Remember, if you ever have any perplexing problems, duct tape will save the day. sm03 And if it doesn't, use more duct tape. sm00 And you can always reapply it next time too.

So true. And if that doesn't hold and you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, try Gorilla Tape...duct tape on steroids.

Check your local Walmart, last time I picked up a roll of duct tape, it now comes in basic duty, medium duty and heavy duty. LOL

two hex head self tapping sheet metal screws right thru the band will hold it in place, Menards has them in stainless also.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
