trans trouble

my 64 landlord is starting to give me a problem. it is hard to shift into any gear. it's like the rod is not going quite far enough so the gears aren't lined up. the bolt between the shifter and the trannie is new so there is no wear. the shift handle does not hit the gates in the hump at all. the belt comes to a complete stop when i step on the pedal. any hints what i should be looking for?

I would check the obvious first......the tranny is full of oil, there is no other interference with the linkage, etc. If all of this is ok, I would guess maybe the shift forks are hanging up on the shafts. They need to slide freely and the detents need to hold them in place when in gear. It might require splitting the case to check this. If you have a parts manual, look at it and you will see how it is set up to work. On my yeomans, the ends of the shafts protrude out of the case a bit and have two flats on them. Possible you can get a wrench on these flats, then loosen the lock nut and turn it back and forth a bit to see if it is free. Make sure you position the shaft in the same place and tighten the nut. I have never done this, just guessing it might work. There is also a large plug in the top of the tranny that will let you look inside and see if there is anything obviously wrong. Good luck! Steve

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
