AC 919 Gets a Little Attention

I've been working on the AC 919 that I acquired in April for the past 2 weeks or so. Just a little side info I'm a senior in High School and I am doing this as a senior project as our school feels the need that seniors need a "learning experience" project. Well so far I have rebuild the engine with exception of playing with the carb. Got torn down washed in the parts washer put back together with new rings, points, gaskets, seals, and paint. I honed the cylinders and lapped the valves as well. Yes I know this is the dreaded KT19 Series I engine but it actually seems to be in really good shape. Nothing was worn over tolerances. Was said to smoke but I'm leaning towards a faulty breather as it has the old mushroom type. I will be ordering the new style when I get a chance. But I have my fingers crossed that the little freshen up will keep it going a while if not oh well then it gets a Briggs! :D Now I started working on getting the tractor prepped for painting. It got torn down more than I initially planned but I'm pretty happy with how it's coming out. Got everything de-greased then sanded and ready for primer. Then it got primed where it is tonight. I will hopefully be painting in the next couple of days. I'm using primer and black from my local napa (martin senour paints). They couldn't match corporate orange as only ppg has a definite code for it? So I bought Allis Orange from Tractor Supply in the Valspar Restoration Series paints. It's a pretty darn near match. It will be sprayed using high gloss hardener to give it a "clear coat" effect. I will be posting updates as soon as I get a chance but it will definitely be done in the next 2 weeks.

Fred: Everything looks really great! You will have an excellent restored tractor when done. Very nice project. If it's a series 2, I wish I had a dozen of those "dreaded" KT19's laying around. They are good powerful engines. The original series one KT's gave them a bad name, but even those were good if people kept oil in them and didn't run them at too steep of grades. Keep up the great work, and keep posting progress photos!

Got a little more progress on the 919. It's all painted and I received my decal kit. Hopefully it will be done in the next few days. I started putting it back together tonight. I have yet to sand, prime, and paint the rims. I guess that can be done towards the end. Well I got a little more accomplished tonight. Got most of the parts bolted back on and started to wire everything up. Right now I'm contemplating whether or not I should buy new ag tires for front and rear. It's a lot of money and that's why I'm hesitant. Does anyone know the cheapest place to order them from? I say go for it and order AG all around. My 7018 has front and rear AG and I really like the look. That said I don't have an idea where to purchase AG cheaply. I made the mistake ordering them through my repair shop and it was pricey Rick........

Do you have a picture of it with the ags? What size and brand do you recommend? Thanks, Fred

I've been working on this old Allis the past few days and she is darned near complete. I have a few odds and ends to tie up such as getting the seat recovered, getting decals on the engine, and my new gas cap is in the mail. I think that's it though till I can call it completely done. Here's the first test ride. I'm pretty darned happy with how she runs and I'm a Briggs guy to heart. Wow I'll never knock a KT Series but now them K Series bahahaha, I'll go toe to toe any day with any one of my 16 horse cast iron Briggs. :D

In the end I'm happy they made us do a project because I was going to restore this tractor anyways and the project just made it get done sooner.
