B10 transmission leak

Oil is leaking out the back of the transmission where the shift shaft goes in and out. I can't see a seal on the outside-------what is supposed to seal the oil in the case???

According to the parts diagram there is no seal. I had one that did the same. It isn`t over filled on the gear oil is it?

All of the older ones do this, that is if they get used. The newer designs had seals on both ends, I think that started with the 'running board tractor' era. Dan

This is normal for the 3 speed transmissions on the early b series. The b 110 had a seal the rear but not on the front. The reason they don't have a seal in the front is so that the gear case can have a breather for when the oil expands when it gets hot. On my b 12 I bored both sides of the housing and put seals in both sides then I put a breather cap in the top fill plug on the transmission housing. This now allows the gearcase to not leak oil but still vent without making a mess.

Thanks for the info. The oil level is OK. What oil is supposed to be in it?? Maybe some 80w-90 would slow the leak down??

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
