725 summercab/snowcab year 1963

Hi All I bought a year simplicity 725 (1963 model) recently and it came with a snowcab. But the enclosures/canvas is all torn up. Any idea where I could find these or do I have have to make my own. If I need to make them on my own, any suggestion on where I could get the material (both opaque canvas and transparent plastic stuff). I already have the lift-o-dot thingy to attach canvas to the frame. Cab in question are below Summer-cab : http://www.simpletractors.com/simplicity/new_in_1963/attachments.htm Snow-cab kit http://www.simpletractors.com/simplicity/new_in_1963/725_implements.htm I have no experience sewing so depending upon how much the materials are going to cost (plus new sewing machine) I might decide to just sell this thing. Again any suggestion on how rare this thing is and how much I should (or could) ask for (tractor setup wasn't cheap so want to recover some money but don't want to overprice it) thanks Raju

I would take it to a canvas or tarp shop. Our local one makes everything from semi truck tarps to boat trailer covers. I have used them to repair camping tents also. I'm sure if you have enough of the old canvas left to show them how it was put together they could duplicate it. They probably could replace the plastic windows also.

sorry was looking at part manual of the cab when I wrote that email. These are the small extrusions on the frame on which the canvas was attached to.

looks like they are still available. So I don't have to spend time salvaging mine... http://www.dotfasteners.com/lift_the_dot.html http://www.perfectfit.com/15333/Lift--the--Dot-Fasteners.html

Welcome Raju! Those are fairly rare! As mentioned a good canvas shop should be able to duplicate the fabric for the cab. Thst looks fairly complete so it shouldn't be to hard!

A local auto upholstery shop might even be a help. They have the experience and material sources for working on convertibles Wayne Welcome to the "cookoos nest".

Very cool! Great find, and welcome! I'm looking for a local joint to redo mine as well, but during boating season, most places are too busy to squeeze me in, without BIG bucks to do it. Sounds like an off-season job is my best bet. Keep us updated on your progress.

thanks everyone for warm welcome. I am going to call few places today and see how much they charge. also found a store online selling clear vinyl tarp (20mil) for 32$ (6x8 section which I think is more than enough for me). I am still busy getting the tractors going (they have been sitting outside for last 2-3 years). just waiting for my carb rebuild kit to arrive. Will keep everyone posted. ~Raju

If you need to plastic/polish, clean the plastic windows, etc., this stuff also works well on old guitar finishes /nitrocelluloselacquer/ http://www.novuspolish.com/ - recommend novus #2, mildly abrasive plastic/polish - it's part of a 3part system. but probly all you need. think shiny guitar, that's what it (2) does. see link, vid. .
