Johnnybucket for snow removal

Yeah I know it's hot as heck out.. but is anyone using a Johnnybucket for snow removal (plowing and stacking)? How well is it working? I have tight quarters in my driveway... too tight to use a blower. So I'm thinking maybe a JB would work better and allow me to stack the white stuff a little.

I don't think the Johnny buckets get the height of a fully hydraulic loader. From what I can remember the Johnny Bucket allows you to lift a light load and transport and dump. Someone else will chime in but for snow moving and stacking I think a Johnny Bucket would just give you headache's. With that said the above is just my opinion and you may find that you like the Johnny Bucket. -Chris

Scott, no one is worried about snow, except in Alaska! Send GregB a PM he is a frequent JB user Wayne

I don't think it would do very well. Buckets are not great for snow to begin with, you cant angle them to "windrow" the snow, and as soon as the bucket is full, it just falls off both sides. They also don't go high enough to stack anything, unless you could pack the banks hard enough to drive on, and keep the angle shallow enough to use the raised bucket as a skid and drive up the bank to dump over the top.

Dan's got the points. Jonny buckets do not lift high enough to stack. The only way to push it is to unlatch the bucket in the down position and scrape. Sort of like the Skid steer loaders push with the front wheels off the ground. Greg

Scott, The Johnny Bucket is designed to transport material not to stack it. Depending on your driveway the bucket may or may not work. You will need a large area to put the snow once you remove it from the driveway. If I had to guess a loader would work better for you. For the most part snow is fairly light I would think you could get away with a large bucket (often called a light material bucket). That said moving snow with a loader is going to be a slow process. How long will depend on the area to be cleared and where you can put the snow. What may work is two tractors. One with a plow to move the snow to one area or gather the snow in a long row. And a second tractor with a loader to pick the snow up and move it to a dumping area. Can you post a picture of your driveway and the problem areas so we can offer other suggestions (and you know we love pictures). Rick..........

Scott--JB points all well made--here is what they are GREAT for.

And you can see they don't raise very high...barely enough to dumpm the bucket.

Scott, I installed a Johnny bucket on a 3310 (CRS don't remember exactly) for a friend. It operates same as the pictures above. I also have my EF1D loader. A loader is not very good for snow removal unless it is deep. You fill up the bucket, then you have to dump the bucket, then repeat lots of times. I understand your predicament, since I have been to your house. If I were going to use a bucket at your place, I would plow the driveway and build the snow up in berms along side the driveway before using a bucket to move it and dump it over the bank into the lower area. You may need to build a small deck to drive out on so you can dump over the bank instead of piling up the snow. Using only a bucket is just too slow. A blade is significantly faster. Guess that is a good excuse to have two tractors ready to go in the winter time. LOL. Here is a picture of the tractor that I worked on with the JB lifted.

You would think that this little monster would make quick work of the snow, but in snows of about 8 inches or less the blade on the AC716H can clear an area in less than half the time that it takes with this EF1D loader. When the snow is around 20 inches as seen in the picture, then I have to fall back on this machine.

I have the oem bucket and it's far too much work for snow removal IMO. I would take a blade over one anyday. The bucket has it's plance with dirt, mulch and such

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
