round hood shifts hard?

Recommended Posts

I have it on two of my round hoods that it is hard to get into gear, When I get it in gear it will shift normal. It is the first time after I start it it will not go in gear easy. What do I need to adjust?

Not enough information, but here's a couple possibilities. Is the gears grinding? Yes, adjust the belt stops around the bevel gear box so the belt doesn't continue to rotate the tranny pully. NO, the gears are not aligning so it will engage easily. Lightly and slowly let out the clutch while holding the gear shift towards the desired gear. this will rotate the tranny slowly and allow the gears to align and fall in.

If the gears are not grinding, I find that by just rocking the tractor a bit by rocking front to back as you sit on it will turn the gears enough for them to slip in right nicely. Steve
