New Simplicity 700

Looks like I'll be the owner of a 1960 700. Getting it from my mother in law as it's been sitting on her property for a few years. I know it used to run about 3 years ago. Father in law started it with a pull rope. I'd like to use the starter instead. Where is a good source for the belt on the starter? Brad

Brad, welcome to the club! A Simplicity dealer would carry or beable to get you the belts needed. Below in the link is a copy of the operator - parts manual. http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/default.aspx?filename=heCBEN8aqIZrE3CG.5kbp796Dq

Welcome Brad. I'm also a newcomer, joined early this summer, and for the same tractor ! My son and I refurbished a 700. It was a great project. Since the motor numbers date it to March 1961, I call it a 1961. It was made right after they took the Wonderboy off the name plate, that the earlier versions had. Ours also has the original "cyclops" headlight. This forum has been a great place to hang out for information and tips. I did the full membership thing ($10 ), so I had access to all the manuals and publications that are available here, and so I could post, and look at the member's pictures. For some of the belts, I went to a close-by Tractor Supply (TSC) and matched the size and length. Good luck with your project! Mike.

Thanks for the welcome guys! She was going to scrap it and the wife jumped in and offered scrap price basically so I'm getting the tractor, deck, and front blade for $60. Here are some pics I hope to have some better ones tomorrow. Welcome aboard! I've got one of those too, just that mine's been apart for a few years! It's on the list that never ends, in the meantime I've got 5 or 6 others to play with! :D

Congratulations on your acquisition and welcome to the club Brad! I've got one just like it - You'll really like how it mows. That 3-piece deck is bullet proof. Doesn't look like the plow has had much use, but the tractor looks like it could use some paint }:) , but will work just fine as is! Mine is a $37 eBay find and looks like it has spent every day of it's 50+ year life outside. They're pretty tough machines. Good luck & have fun - p.s.: Try to grab that foil name plate at the back of the seat pan, just below the back rest before it disappears.

Cant wait to see the restoration begin. I see your SUV has Indiana place, where in Indiana are you, my wife and I live in Kokomo. I love it when a new project starts, espcialy when you save one that was headed for the scrapper. Mike and Michele T

Mike I live in Anderson, but know where Kokomo is. Pass thru there every now and then. I'm not sure if I'm gonna do a full resto on it as the chassis is cleaning up pretty nicely. I might just strip the hood and wheels and go from there. I sat on it for the 1st time the other day and just felt weird because I'm used to my John Deeres. I think I'm going to try to get it running while I am off this week. I cleaned the carb out yesterday. I need to get a battery and belt for the starter/generator as I dont feel like pull starting this beast.

Awsome, my wife and I go to the flea markets over in Anderson and my parents go to the casino there. My 314 cleaned up so nice that the only repainting I did was the front rims, they were pretty rusty from grass residue sticking inside them. Tractor is just nice enough to not really want to restore it, combined with not really being my fav Allis/Simplicity tractor style. I am hunting for what you just got. My friend Steve is huge into JD's, has a beautifully restored 318 that he mows his yard with and takes to shows, we both plan to be at the Portland show this coming Friday. I should have my Allis 314 and he will have the 318. Mike

Welcome to the club, Bradz. That tractor was just waiting for the right person to come along and do the obvious rescue; and it looks like he found a good home. Amazing what a bath will do. It's pretty impressive what you have done already. Best of luck with getting it running. Nice to see deck + blade; also looks like front pto and rear lift assembly. Instant collector's item. dOd Graham .

A question for you guys...According to the manual the pulley to attach the rope cord to pull start it is located on the bevel gearbox on the right side. Mine does not have that but it looks like its been relocated to the front of the tractor. Is this okay to use to start it if need be? I'm pretty sure this is how my father-in-law started it. I intend on using the electric starter.

Was wondering what the pulley on the front of the engine was! I would think it would work just fine where it is! Bevel gear box is 1:1 to the engine anyway. Probably easier where it is located, make sure your points are clean, a good running 19 usually will fire right up! Probably wouldn't hurt to give the cylinder a dose of marvel mystery oil before you start it. Also you may want to check to make sure you don't have any critter condo's in the blower shroud too!:D

I'm really a John Deere guy as I have 4 of those tractors but have always wanted this one for some reason... A real good reason, they will lay stripes better then you Deer Johns. once you use a simp or an allis foot dragger you'll scrap out you green stuff.:D:D

Ahh, the one great benefit of the simplicity deck roller system, nice lawn strips!! I think that goes for any Allis/Simplicities, not just foot draggers, although I do have dragger envy! Cheers Mike

I was wondering about a Manual. I tried to find one; and couldn't even find an MFR# for a 700 Tractor like this one. They must be secret, or hardcopy?. ?? 8) ??

Did some work on the 700. Took the angle grinder with a wire wheel and attacked the hood. There was a lot of pitting from the rust but I managed to get most of it off. There are some deeper pits along the back of the hood that sets on the dash but I'll just have to deal with it I think.
