When I bought this a month or so ago, the engine was reported as bad. I got it home and tried to turn it over with my jump box. It made all kinds of gasping noises like the gaskets were blown. I didn't go any further. I then ordered a gasket set for this ch18 that I had rescued from a dead cub. The results of this cleaning and restore look like this. This is the tractor all together with its freshened-up transplanted Cub CH18. No drips yet or smoke. I remember the PO telling me the new things he had gotten for his tractor before it quit. Plugs were one of them. So I installed the new plugs into my transplant. The thing is, both plugs were barely in finger tight! I will clean this dirty thing up and throw a gasket set on it over the winter. Could be it is not toast after all:)

Great work. It should serve you well. I see the Cub engine had the vacuum fuel pump so you didn't have to move that from the Simplicity engine. Did the Cub engine also have the chopper screen like the Simplicity did? The Simplicity engine was really packed with debris, mostly grass clippings by the looks of it. It looks like there was some type of leak (oil or gas or maybe just wet grass) that made the debris pack in so much. In my limited experience, with the chopper screen, usually the chopped grass blows through the finds but does collect around the air filter as long as it is dry. It will be interesting to see if the Simplicity engine has life left in it. But before you put a gasket set in it, why don't you clean it up and see if it has compression, where it's leaking, and maybe even if it'll run?

Thanks for the compliments. Bill, I was thinking of just cleaning it up first since the plugs were loose. I'll give it a compression test and go from there. The aluminum fuel pump was moved from the Sovereign engine as well as the chopper screen and the aluminum flywheel extension for the driveshaft. The Cub motor did have a fuel pump too, but it looked like it had a Briggs emblem stamped on the back of it (not that there is anything wrong with that). Runs well, but I do have to pull a slight bit of choke for all ranges of throttle. I am hoping that with running it and a little Sea Foam, that will go away.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
