Puller

Hey guys, I might have found the simplicity I want to turn into my next garden tractor puller. Its a System 7013 with the shuttle transmission. Just wondering if any of you guys who have experiece with the shuttles could inform me as to how exactly they work and if the could handle the load of pulling the eliminator sled. I also plan on putting a twin cylinder 16 horse onan into this to make it more exhibition style. Any help would be great!!

Not too saavy with the shuttles, but I do know this Aaron. The weakest parts of the transaxle are the axle tube, and the differential. I've seen the diffs replaced with solid stock as well as a solid through axle.

On a shuttle you would also have that set of planetary gears to worry about, on the input side of the trans. Seems I always hear that component as a potential wear point on Shuttles.

I have a shuttle and it seems like I always fight slipping even while i'm just mowing. It seems to me that the best option for a Simplicity would be a 3 speed. But the axle tubes are a definite problem. One that can be overcome though.

The only way to make a shuttle work for pulling is to bolt the driven pulley sheaves together. This will lock up the shuttle system for forward only. If you put it in reverse with the bolt in I think you will have a pile of metal to clean up. I drilled the pulley sheaves together with a soft 1/4" bolt. i trialed this for pulling but never actually pulled a sled (decided to go with a straight 3-speed).

ok thanks guys. Im going to pass on this one then. Sounds like a hassle to make right. Ive got some leads on some older FDTs that would be sweet to put my onan twin in. Going up this weekend to where they are so maybe ill bring one home. Thanks again
