Sharpen blades

Recommended Posts

Yes you can. Take the sickle bar out of the the machine and put it on a bench or in a vise. Then take a small grinder and sharpen each side of the knives making sure to follow the same angle that is already on the blade. You will eventually lose the serration on the blade, but a sharp blade is worth more in cutting performance than the serration. We used to do it all the time when we ran sickle bar mowers on the farm. Now we use disc mowers for higher speed performance. But a good sharp sickle will mow just fine and much less likely to plug.
