protective coating

When I first went to work cleaning and repairing my 64 Landlord 8 yrs. ago I noticed the bottom of the tank & battery wells were rusty and had a layer of general scuz in them. I wanted to undercoat them but never have had good luck with the commercial coatings. I remembered I had a bucket of foundation coating so I cut the coating about 50% with diesel fuel and applied it to the bottom of each well. Now 8 yrs. later it looks almost as good as the day I painted it in there. I dont believe it gets real hard...sort of stays flexible. Once its dry gas spills haven't affected it either. I do have a chunk of rubber roofing material under the battery just for good measure. My Allis 314 just got that treatment today. Just thought I'd toss the idea out amongst ya. Dick

Forgot to mention, if you use this concotion allow LOTS of time to dry. Best done when the tractor is going to be layed up for at least a week or two. Maybe different brands of foundation coatings dry at faster rates, I don't know............Dick
