Allis 816-T

I have found an Allis Chalmers 816-T with the 42" mower for $500. The engine runs well and everything seems to work well once I figured out how the "Vari-Shift" works. It needs a little paint but is otherwise a nice machine. The only thing wrong is that it leans a little if viewed from the front for some reason. I haven't bought it yet and wanted to know if anyone had experience with one of these and could tell me if, overall, they were good, reliable machines. I think it is about the same as a Simplicity 6216. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I have a 6216 and love it. Mowes grass great, plows snow and dirt like a champ. Vari Shift, or Tractomatic is a center mounted pully with a sliding center sheve that provides variable ratio in each gear. Run a search on 6216 and you should find a previous post with details on how to check it out.

The leaning could be over/under inflated or mismatched tire(s), a bent spindle/wheel, bent or binding axle, or a bent/damaged frame.
