Loss of power (black smoke)

I have an AC616 with Onan 16.5 hp. I've recently re-set the intake & exhaust valves, slow & fast idle, cleaned plugs, checked breather and re-set points. I can't figure out why under full throttle or heavy grass it spits alot of black smoke and bogs down. Total loss of power. I would appreciate any help or advice as to why the engine is choking down. Thanks, Matt

Sounds like it's getting too much fuel under load or can't burn all the fuel it's getting. Did the problem exist before you did the work..? Did you check the air filter..? For starters, I think I'd install NEW plugs and points, readjust the carb, and make sure the choke is opening fully.

I agree with Dutch - running too rich under heavy load. I'd say you need to close down the main fuel adjuster a bit and lean it out. You may also want to check the float level and make sure the float doesn't have a leak and possibly taking on fuel. Good luck. Jeff
