3416H Briggs 16hp oil level on dip stick question

I don't have a manual so I'm wondering how to read the dip stick...is having the oil level anywhere between "Full" and the end of the dip stick safe?? Or is there a definite spot on the stick it should never get under?? (no other markings besides the "Full" marking) Thanks for looking!!

i would just go by the mark on the stick . make sure it is full before you start it . you'll feel better that way. thats what i do just check it before i start for the day.

The correct way to read the dip stick is to turn engine off, pull it out, wipe it off, stick it back down all the way (I believe your's needs to be screwed down) and then pull it back out and check the level mark. You don't want it above full but I would add oil when it about 1/4" below the full mark. Use 30HD (high detergent, not non-detergent), and not 10w30 or 10w40 unless you have to. Some oil is better than no oil!
