Year of manufacture?

You can also try to date the engine, if it's original. Here's the new link (it changed, and I need to change it on the Links page). The tractor was likely made no more than 2 to 4 months after the engine was. Briggs & Stratton's plant is just a few miles from Simplicity in Port Washington.[A href='http://www.edgeta.org/mdate3.htm']http://www.edgeta.org/mdate3.htm[/a]

Thanks Van and Kent for the tips. Will check out both ways.

Don't know about that vintage but have noticed seat pans with dates on them. I currently have a 7010 with "Milsco 12-16-74" stamped into the seat pan (you don't see it unless you remove the seat). The assumed original Briggs has a 1975 date code. Both dates fit with the intro of the 7000 series in 1975. Brent

I've been trying to find out the year of manufacture for my Model 700. The Mfg # is 990168, The Serial # is 10217 From this can anyone determine the year of mfg? I did look up the manufacture number and wondered if the serial number could narrow the year of manufacture further.

Woody, Can't help you beyond what you've done already, which shows 1959-60. But if you look at the mower deck mfg number that's with it, you could find a difference, w/ 990172 as 1959, and 990190 as 1960. While decks can be swapped around, if you know it was original, that would set the date. VSE
