Roy's B1

Roy, The mesurements of the B10 frame where the engine mounts is as follows; the frame is 13" between the sides, The engine bolts holes are 11" apart left to right and 6.5" front to back. If your B1 has that much room you should have no trouble putting a 10 or 12 hp Briggs on it. Tim

Tim,

Thanks for the dimensions.

I have looked at older B-10's
and the only difference I see is the tractor frame is
slightly different around the engine oil drain pipe. My
parts book shows the B-1 & B-10 use the same replacement
frame. It looks to me like the newer B & S engines with
balance systems are wider front-to-back which may interfere
with the B-1 angle bracket to mount the grill & hood
assembly. So, I think you are right. I should be able
to bolt in an old style 10 or 12 C.I. B & S engine. The
problem is finding one.

Is there a newer model B & S that will bolt-in without
extensive modifications?

Thanks,
Roy

Roy, I know this is a little late but I just saw this note. The later B&S engines approx. 1974 and newer do not have the balance gears mounted on the front (internal balancers). This engine is shorter front to back (same mounts though).
