Onan Question

This may be a bit vague, but how interchangable are Onan Flywheels from one engine to another? if at all. I have a Performer series 24 HP that needs a used flywheel. Do 18 - 24 use the same flywheel? Sam

Sam, I don't know about the performer series, but if their Engineering department is smart, they'd use the same flywheel on all of these units. I say that because I am a mechanical engineer and when I worked in a manufacturing atmosphere, the biggest costs were setup costs for machining/casting etc. Having three different flywheels would raise the cost of these engines considerably (I would think). On the other hand, when the powermax tractors were made in the mid 70's, Onan seemed to think that it was better to make two different flywheels for the CCKA 16.5 HP engine and the CCKB 19.5 HP engine. Maybe that thinking is why Cummins bought them out. Paul
