Hi Guys, I hate champion. when I was a kid dirt racing i would kill champions in a day. I have to agree with Brad on the autolite. I use them in all my tractors.I use Bosch in my chainsaws.

I've been using Champion H-10's on my Onan as a replacement for the recommended H-8's. I buy them by the 8-pack at Farm & Fleet cuz I burn them up all the time. I've had good luck with NGK's on other equipment. Anyone know what the NGK equivalent is? Paul

I get the feeling I must be fortunate or something. I've always used Champions in my Kohlers probably for the last 10 years and never a problem. Cast Iron Briggs, Ive had a handfull of bad plugs on , but never on my Kohlers. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Sam, I've never had any real problems with Champions either. I suspect they may not be as "forgiving" as some other plugs. If a specified plug is not "chocolate brown" when removed, it indicates an engine problem. Usually too rich or lean a mixture. I'll step up to a hotter plug with an engine that burns oil. Rather than repair or keep an engine in proper adjustment, many people just put in a new plug (I've done it myself). Auto engines have multiple cylinders, so plug problems aren't as noticeable as on a 1 or 2 cylinder engine.

My AC B-1 Model 19 Briggs engine eats plugs for breakfast. Doesn't seem to matter what brand. I suspect it is because it runs so hot when mowing. One summer I used some plugs from a V-4 Evinrude. They lasted better than anything else. If I could get plugs with a colder heat range I think they would last longer. My 2 cents worth. Roy

I got burnt again with champion spark plug .I have never had a good one yet.I know it was the plug as I just stuck a new coil in.I thought it was the coil as it is a 59 model 19 and thought the miss was comming from the coil(only happened when running fast) after I put in the coil same thing.Put in old firestone spark plug and runs great. Also put new belts on the thrower and I might be ready for winter. Oh yea I still have to put the bucket on the bobcat for the gravel part of the drive way.Hope spring comes soon.Bob

I had 6 bad champions this year, mostly in briggs and kohler engines. the ones that were in a engine that was running to lean did not go bad....Most of them went bad after getting damp.

Nowadays most shops just replace plugs rather than clean and test them. If any shops in your area still have an "old fashioned" plug cleaner that also tests a plug under compression it may be of interest to use on a bad plug. What I have found is that certain plugs will appear to fire normally until tested under compression. Then, instead of the spark jumping across the electrodes, the spark will travel down the center insulator to ground. It is really interesting to watch this happen. Either the ceramic insulator on some plugs absorb more than others, or the additives in some oils or fuels permeate the ceramic more than others. Champion plugs may be more susceptible to this than other brands.

Hmmmmmm I use Camps in all my engines cuz I have never had a bad one running them in my Dodges. Over the years I can think of 4 that combined would make about 1.2 million miles. engine in my current pick-up is somewhere over 350,000 and I put new plugs every 40ooo cuz I feel guilty, love that electronic ig. MPH maybe I'll try an autolite in my 112 and see if it starts.
