I"m pretty sure mine bit the dust yesterday. Alot of noise and then I could not go anywhere. The PTO pulleys do not move with the engine running and it moves not so smoothly with the engine off. I have ordered a repair and parts manual and I am going to try to fix it. What am I going to find when I try this? I have average mechanical abilities and can pretty much figure most stuff out if I have the manuals. From reading previous post about this, it seems kinda hard but doable. What do you folks think, go for it or let my local dealer make his boat payment.

It's a pretty straight forward job from a mechanical standpoint. The manual gives good step by step instructions. Don't try and save a few pennies. Replace all bearings, seals, snap rings, washers, and keys even if they look okay. Just remember the BGB holds the front and rear of the tractor together. Make sure to observe safety.

I second what Dutch said. I have done two in recent months and both tractors are still doing fine. Don't loose the shim(s) between the BVG and the frame when you take it off. They are used to take up the play in the gears. Check the input shaft for wear and grooves. Most of the time they get a groove worn in them if let go with a bad bearing to long. If its worn you ought to replace it too. SmilinSam

If you get a repair manual, all parts are shown and all procedures are outlined. If you can read you will be successful in your repair. You will do fine. Remember, the only dumb question is the one you did not ask. Woody
