tractor rebuild

In the process of changing the band brake on my 6216, things got out of hand. The tractor is now totally disassembled in my garage. What kind of sand blast media works best for rust/paint removal? I want to repaint this tractor and repair/replace anything that is broken or worn. Thanks again for your input.

Sounds familiar Tim. I started tinkering with a 6216 I was given, and now you would'nt know I even had a tractor in my garage. A freshly painted frame stands alone in the corner, and a variety of small boxes cover the benches and floor. These boxes contain all the pieces I am now trying to reassemble.Hopefully I'll be ready for spring.I used glass shot for all my parts. It really cuts through the rust and old paint.

Wonder what's with the brake bands on our 6216's , your's went out, Rog Arnoldi's went out, mine is out. Must be a weak link in an otherwise good tractor! VanE

Not a bad tractor if all it needs after 20 years is a brake band. Mine broke where the rod goes through it. From what I'm reading here, I won't have the prettiest dog on the block for long. Maybee next year I'll splurge for some paint and have a go at doing a resto, but for now if it ain't broke, good ! cause I'm broke. Happy tractoring.

When I took mine apart the brake band had plenty of pad material left but it is glazed real bad. I ordered one at my local Simp. dealer for $37.50. I'm not really after "pretty" just functional. My wife told me that I should paint my tractor so I'm not the disgrace of the neighborhood. Now she says that I should paint flames on it. Since this is my first attempt at painting that might be beyond my ability but then again: when there is a will there is a way.

Almost sounds to me like the brake problem was built into these tractors to get 'em a 20 year paint job...Funny how taking one part off leads to another, then, then, a pile of parts..MPH

Yeah, but wait till you have those parts all laid out in order on the garage floor so you can remeber how to put them back together................................................ and then your kids come in and organize them for you................. OH HO Nellie!!!!!!! its like a big jigsaw puzzle then.......................and I never liked puzzles...................
