Big Mow?

Recommended Posts

BLT

That is my wife's favorite mower, second one come to think of it. Front wheel drive, 360 degree turn and power wheel, two speed and they were very hard to tip over. The first models came out with 6HP TEC engines and then later with 8HP Briggs engine and electric start options. The last year of production was 1987. Last ones had as MSRP of around $1200. The biggest population seemed to be central Illinois, Indiana and Missouri form my travels.

Is it worth the asking price? Guy says it has spark, but he couldnt get it to fire. Hoping for a stuck valve after I pick it up this week ;)

It's too damn cute, and too close to home not to grab...thanks Ken! :D

I mowed with one of those Swishers for several years on a 3/4 acre flat lot in Utah, when stationed there. They are amazing mowers for small flat lots. As mentioned, the steering wheel will turn in complete circles, which is how you go backwards. They are front wheel drive on that single front wheel, so you can trim very, very close without any tire scrubbing or anything.

Plus, they're a blast to drive - my kids loved to drive it...

As long as the seller keeps his word...he certainly seemed like the type. Might even swing by tomorrow and grab it, depending on how long I'm stuck at the inlaws XX(

Pretty much what the CL ad showed. Neat little thing. Shouldn't take much doing to get her going. Looks like the engine is a 6horse Tec.

Chain drive. It's a simple, but interesting system. There is a two belt system off the engine...very much like an RER Wonderboy. Hi & Lo. In between is kinda like a neutral. The lever by the steering wheel engages and disengages the drive by a spring loaded idler.

I'm sure you could flip it if you tried, but the center of gravity is awful low, and the machine is wider than it appears. Sitting on it feels extremely stable, and the deck cover doesn't leave much space for a foot to get under there.

The exhaust goes out the back and down through the deck, so no worry burning your leg. Might choke the air breather with a loose pant let, but other than that, it's pretty buttoned up. I'm amazed by the considtion. It's dirty, but still as the original seat cover and safety decals.

Josh:

What are those two things sticking out of each side of the grill? Are they bolts, or are they supposed to be for lights? I can't tell by the pics. You should paint an arc beneath them to make a smiley face.

That's a cute little tractor. For some reason it makes me think of WALL-E. I bet it mows great.
