Broadmoor 727 problems

Now that I reach the end of the road in my rehab of this tractor I have come to a couple of problems. The first is with the stator. There are four wires coming out of the side of the engine the carb is on and there are two coming out the side where the starter is (this is a 11hp b&s). On the side with the starter there was a fuse connector on a red wire and a regular terminal connector on the other black wire. I have found that the black wire runs my lights great but if I try going to the battery it is a straight ground. But the red wire won't charge the battery at all. I played with some of the wires on the carb side and found some that would work but my question is why are there so many wires and what would they normally go to. It is as if there are four or five circuits. The other problem I have come to is the belts. I have a double pulley mounted mid way back that seems to me to be there to slow the tire speed. I guess that there is one belt that goes from the small top pulley back to the rearend with the aid of an idler and spring. So this means that the front belt is the one that gets disengaged by the foot pedal but there is no evidence of where a pulley would go to put tension on the belt to make it drive. I hope someone can shed some light on this problem.

Hi, Your "fuse" plug is really the alternator out. It should have a diode in it not a fuse. The briggs part # for the diode is 391507 and the spring that pushes it in against the back contcat in the connector is 261269. I am at the house and will need to get to the shop to address the belt situation. Perhaps someone else has the info at their fingertips. Good luck, Al E
