hey all still working on my big ten has the briggs&stratton eng.SN #0123-02-6509201 model # 243431 got a question should the wire that comes from the magneto to the points have continuity through the wire i unhooked it from the points it does have a spot where there's no continuity when turning the eng by hand thanks every one and Happy New Year all

what i meant is it supposed to be grounded ??

I don't know for sure, but wouldn't think so. Grounding the points is how the engine gets shut off, so I would think if that wire goes to ground, you won't have any spark ever.

The wire is connected to the magneto under the fan shroud. It grounds the secondary circuit so the magneto will charge. When the points open it triggers the primary to release the electrical charge and causes the spark voltage. Never tried to test the cont. of the wire but it should have fairly high resistance going through the magneto. I suppose it's possible for it to loose cont. if the magnetic charge from the flywheel pushs voltage towards the points. Grounding this wire forces a no charge mode of the magneto so the engine shuts down.
