Hey guys, we are a spoiled bunch of old iron collectors on this site. I just finished plowing my drive with that 14hp gilson I bought last spring cuz it had a startergen on it, wasn't suppose to run and tranny was suppose to be bad. Started it last summer once to see if the gen worked, runs good and goes fast, blade raises about 2 inches, has rt hand lift and rt hand hydro control, boy!!!!!!!is that a handy deal plowin snow. If the morning goes as planned I should have a Landlord 101 home by mid pm. It has a 23d briggs with zero sign on compression. Sam, you seem to be the engine swapper, will a 320000 bolt onto the pan of a 23d?? Other concern is will a Landlord bgb and tranny handle 14hp??Until useing it tonight I felt bad for the thought of partting out a complete, working tractor, but now feel somethings are best to get off the street. Thanks for any swapping info.MPH

First, I would pull the head off the 23D and see if its just a stuck valve. As far as swapping, if you change to a pan thet fits the landlord/B10 frame and remove the stand up dipstick(if equipped) and plug the hole, you will not have to modify the frame. The 23D pan may fit, I know a 24000 pan will- you will just have to see. Make sure you get the direction of the oil drain right (I 've inadvertantly put them on bacwards before) Though the newer tractors with more than 12HP use a larger diameter shaft in the BVG I really don't see a problem using the 14 as long as the BVG is fairly good to start with.

If the BGB is in good shape it should be OK. As a tractor puller we have had no problems with the BGB, the axle tube and differential are good for about 40hp max. Good Luck! Mike S.
