Trailer for my 312

I'm considering purchasing a "utility trailer" to haul my Allis 312 and to use for odds and ends. What should I look for in a trailer? What makes a quality trailer stand out from a run of the mill model. Your thoughts & advice will be appreciated.

I scored an older snowmachine trailer cheap because they are too narrow for new snowmachines. It sits about 1 foot high and is tilt bed. Just used it today to bring home a 65 landlord that had one flat and one low front tire but loading it was still easy..MPH

I also bought an old 6' X 8' snowmobile trailer for cheap to haul my tractor(s). At $200, it was much cheaper than the new 4' x 8' cheapo utility trailers, and much heavier built. It loads so much easier than my 4WD pickup, even though the tilt bed doesn't work. One caution -- the smaller the wheels the more stress placed on wheel bearings at highway speeds. Put "bearing buddies" on them, and watch them close.

Bearing buddies are the aftermarket grease caps that have grease zerks built in. There's two common types. One (my favorite) is spring loaded and the spring pushes the grease into the wheel bearings. The other is more like a common grease cap, but with a zerk in it. On these, you just pump grease until it starts to come out the backside of the hub... My tilt bed has been welded down. I'm thinking of mounting some "tilt up" ramps or a tailgate like all the new landscaping trailers have... Even better is the fact that my neighbor went in "halves" with me on the trailer, and he has the needed welder (and skill)...

I use my 6 x 12 landscaping trailer to haul my tractors to the antique tractor shows and to pick up more tractors. I have mounted a hand powered winch to winch up any tractors I buy that do not run.[A href='http://www.simplicityva.com']http://www.simplicityva.com[/a]

how the trailer is built.try to get a metal constructed one but most are plastic.also building one is a good way to save money and they last longer than a store brand. sorry i though he wanted to know information on a trailer for his 312.in that a case i agree with a snowmobile trailer.

I used to own a 7' x 10' snowmobile trailer. When tilted the angle was too steep to drive a tractor up. I would drive them as far as they would go and then use a come -along the rest of the way. The only problem I noticed with bearing buddies is that you can put too much grease in them causing the oil seal to blow out.

Not only is the old single snowmobile trailer cheap and great for haulin' your tractor but makes the perfect trailer for pulling with your tractor (not too wide). It can work double duty. Good Luck! Mike S.

I use a 5x10 landscaping trailer for EVERYTHING. I haul my AC 816 and firewood and whatever else in the cold months and my jetskiis in the summer. That long, drive up tailgate is not only great to simply drive things up on, but makes it easier so see behind a big truck. 15 inch tires make it as streetable as any car or truck. It was more of an investment initially than a small utility trailer, but has proven well worth it over the years.

After Kent's comment to me at the Brooklyn Fair Grounds about why I didn't bring the tractor, I am about to buy a new tlr at Home Depot. 5' X 8' tilt, 1,400 lb capacity, Canadian built, $599. (RI) Regards to all.
